Greening Up

Hannah emerges from the brush with a piece of trash beside Hinesburg Road yesterday, doing her part for Green Up Day.  Her mother, Rose Bernier, and friend Joyce cheer her on.

Dave and Eli Quickel were having a grand time yesterday afternoon cleaning up their stretch of Hinesburg Road.  The weather was fine, there was less trash than expected and Eli excitedly told me that they'd found a "big hole" that Dave said might be the home of the coyote they'd seen around their fields.

Wily Coyote

Here's a pic of the coyote that has moved into the woods near the ferry.  Has anyone else seen him/her?  There's a litter of pups that warble at night.  This one is big and health-looking - but should we be concerned about our cats and small dogs?  You can read this coyote  factsheet from Vermont Fish & Wildlife but it doesn't mention household pets.
