Town Meeting Prep

Do you know what your Selectboard looks like?  Do you know which is the only contested race for the CCS School Board?  Time to start doing your homework - here to help are pics of Kristen Wright and Charlie Russell appearing at Candidates Night, an annual pre-Town-Meeting event sponsored by the Charlotte Grange held at the Senior Center last week.  Charlie, by the way, is the chair of our Selectboard and Kristen is running against Clyde Baldwin for the school board.

A Loss

Yesterday much of the town came together to say goodbye to Cowboy Lewis, who died last week at the age of 80.  Flags were at half-mast and dozens of cars were parked up and down Church Hill Road as hundreds attended the service that honored one of the true originals of Charlotte and to tell the many stories of a life lived to the fullest.

Thanks to Edd Merritt for the photographs.

A Charlotter goes to Washington

Cody Stanley, local boy and current college student, sent in these pics from his adventure at the inauguration last week. Below, he and several thousand new acquaintances braved the cold all night before the event. Left, a new day dawns behind the capitol building.

Underground in Charlotte

Thanks to Edd Merritt for today's post and pic:
"Here is a shot of the VELCO transmission lines heading underground beneath Ferry Road at the Waldorf School and a wooden pole standing naked after losing its lines. Apparently, although they just removed the overhead lines last week, power has been flowing sub-soil since the beginning of December. It goes underground to the substation by the old railway depot. How about starting up an electric train?"

Moonlight in Charlotte

Dawn Hartman was at the Charlotte Congregational Church last Friday evening and happened to have her camera with her when she noticed this full moon.  Thank you, Dawn, for taking this gorgeous moon pic and sending it in to us!  Nice job!

Back on the ice

The town rink is open again!  Bundle up and get out on the ice - you won't be cold for long.  It's a well-known fact that a Charlotte winter is a lot more enjoyable when you get outside and do something fun.  It's great for all ages and there's plenty of room.  See you out there!

Coming down the hill

This is my favorite view after a hectic day of appointments and errands in Burlington, driving south on Route 7 just after the Nordic farm. The lake and mountains stretch out just beyond the highway and there's always a moment of appreciation for the beautiful town in which we live.
Thanks to Karen Frost for articulating this first.
